Information for authors

Hoping Borderless Books can stock your book?

Please read the following guidelines on what we look for, and how you can best help us to support you.

As well as our personal tips, you might find these more general guidelines from the Booksellers Association helpful in getting your book stocked on the high street.

Does your book fit with our selection?

We put a huge amount of time and passion into curating the books you find in our shop, and we have a pretty good idea of what our regular customers like to read. So, when pitching your book to us, it is essential to consider how it might fit with our existing selection.

How to show us your book

Please email us in the first instance at hello@borderlessbooks.co.uk. You must include some brief information on your book, a link to a sample, an image of the cover and the method in which we would potentially order repeat copies. If you don’t include this information, we can’t guarantee a reply.

We receive lots of requests to stock books from authors every week, so it may sometimes take us a little while to get back to you.

Please do not bring us physical copies of your book unless we’ve requested that you do so. We don’t have much space, nor the time to give every book the consideration it deserves, so we can’t hold on to your book unless it’s going to be on the shelves.

How would we order your book?

If it’s available through suppliers like Gardners, that makes it a lot easier for us to reorder once we’ve sold it, but we do sometimes work directly with authors if the book is a really good fit.

Publishing through Amazon

We often receive submissions from authors who have self-published their book through Amazon’s print-on-demand platforms. Unfortunately we’re unable to accept books published in this way, regardless of content or quality.

Generative A.I.

Books written, illustrated, translated or edited using generative A.I. won’t be considered for stock.

It’s not personal

If we decide your book isn’t right for us, please don’t take it personally. It’s a great achievement to have written a book, and we respect you for putting yourself out there! Bookselling is a tough old business: if you can find someone who is as passionate about your work as you are it’ll be much better for you and for book sales.
